Make your very own homemade Mornay sauce with our quick and simple recipe using ingredients you keep at home like milk and butter along with a hearty helping of Sargento® Shredded Parmesan Cheese to create a velvety topping to drizzle of fresh cooked elbow macaroni.

  • 12 oz. uncooked elbow macaroni
  • 1/4 cup plus 2 Tbsp. butter
  • 1/4 cup plus 2 Tbsp. all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 cups milk, warmed
  • 1/4 cup plus 2 Tbsp. Sargento® Shredded Parmesan Cheese or Parmesan & Romano Cheese
  • Dash ground nutmeg
  1. Cook macaroni according to package directions; drain.
  2. Meanwhile, melt butter in 2-quart saucepan over medium heat. Whisk in flour and salt; cook and stir 2 minutes. Gradually add milk, whisking constantly, until well blended and smooth. Cook and stir 3 to 4 minutes or until slightly thickened.
  3. Remove from heat. Stir in cheese and nutmeg.
  4. Toss macaroni with sauce mixture. Sprinkle with additional cheese, if desired.
