Bring all of the traditional tastes and smells of autumn to your kitchen with this braided bread recipe that is simple yet gorgeous. This bread is brimming with flavor with the help of Sargento® Shredded Sharp Cheddar Cheese - Fine Cut along with your favorite herbs and spices.

Ingredients
  • 1 cup hot water (120 to 130°F)
  • 2 Tbsp. vegetable oil
  • 1 package hot roll mix
  • 1 egg
  • 2 Tbsp. Dijon mustard
  • 1 tsp. basil, crushed
  • 1/2 tsp. marjoram, crushed
  • 1 cup (4 oz.) Sargento® Shredded Sharp Cheddar Cheese - Fine Cut
  • 1 cup (4 oz.) Sargento® Shredded Swiss Cheese
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1/2 tsp. water
  • 1 tsp. cracked black pepper
Directions
  1. In small bowl, combine hot water and oil. In large bowl, combine hot roll flour mixture and yeast; blend well. Add water mixture and egg; stir until dough pulls away from sides of bowl. On lightly floured surface, knead dough for 5 minutes or until smooth. Cover with large bowl; let rest 5 minutes.
  2. On lightly floured surface, roll dough to 12x16-inch rectangle. Cut into three 4x16-inch strips. Combine mustard, basil and marjoram; spread mixture on each dough strip. Sprinkle with combined Cheddar and Swiss cheeses. Bring long edges of dough together to enclose filling; pinch to seal. Place strips side by side, seam-side down, on greased cookie sheet. Braid strips together; tuck ends under to seal. Cover loosely with plastic wrap and a towel. Let rise in warm place 30 minutes.
  3. In small bowl, combine egg yolk and water; brush dough with egg mixture and sprinkle with pepper. Bake at 375°F 20 to 25 minutes or until loaf sounds hollow when tapped. Serve warm.
