Big is beautiful when it comes to desserts, especially when we’re talking about this incredibly delicious apple cheese tart. You can proudly boast to your dinner table that this entire tart was made from scratch because the dough is simple enough to create and will result in a perfectly buttery and cheesy taste using Sargento® Shredded Mild Cheddar Cheese - Fine Cut.

  • 1-1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 cup (4 oz.) Sargento® Shredded Mild Cheddar Cheese - Fine Cut
  • 1/2 cup ice water
  • 6 cups peeled apples, cut into 1/2-inch slices
  • 2 Tbsp. lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  1. Combine flour and salt in bowl. Cut in shortening until crumbly with pastry blender. Add cheese. Gradually add water; toss lightly until dough forms; shape into ball.
  2. Roll dough on lightly floured surface to form 13-inch circle. Place on baking sheet. Leaving a 1-1/2-inch border, uncovered, place apple slices on dough by starting at edge, spiraling slices inward and overlapping slightly. Sprinkle with lemon juice. Mix sugar and cinnamon; sprinkle over apples.
  3. Bake in preheated 450°F oven 30 minutes or until apples are tender. Cool 10 minutes. Remove from pan and cut into wedges to serve.
