This dip holds its own among other appetizer treats on the table. The savory flavors from hearty chopped bacon strips, sautéed sweet onions, spinach, nutmeg and a creamy helping of Sargento® Shredded Extra Sharp Cheddar Cheese are an ideal partner for pita or bagel chips.

Ingredients
  • 4 slices thick applewood smoked bacon, chopped
  • 1 cup chopped sweet onion
  • 1 (10 oz.) pkg. frozen chopped spinach, thawed, squeezed dry
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 tsp. grated nutmeg (optional)
  • 1-3/4 cups (7 oz.) Sargento® Shredded Extra Sharp Cheddar Cheese
  • Pita or bagel chips
Directions
  1. Cook bacon in a skillet over medium heat until crisp. Use a slotted spoon to transfer bacon to a paper towel. Pour off all but 1 tablespoon of the drippings. Add onion; sauté until golden brown, about 5 minutes. Add spinach; saute 2 minutes. Stir in cream and nutmeg; remove from heat.
  2. Stir in cheese and reserved bacon; spread mixture into a 9-inch pie plate. Bake in preheated 375°F oven 20 minutes or until heated through. Serve warm with chips.
