These open-faced pumpernickel sandwiches are topped with a mixture of shallots and mushrooms simmered in Worcestershire sauce and joined with melting Sargento® Ultra Thin® Pepper Jack Cheese Slices and deli sliced ham for just the right amount of robust flavor in every bite.

  • 2 tsp. butter or olive oil
  • 2 cups sliced crimini or button mushrooms
  • 1/4 cup minced shallots or onion
  • 1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 slices pumpernickel or rye bread, lightly toasted
  • 4 oz. sliced deli smoked ham or turkey
  • 4 slices Sargento® Ultra Thin® Pepper Jack Cheese Slices
  1. Melt butter in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add mushrooms and shallots; sauté 5 to 6 minutes or until vegetables are tender. Add Worcestershire sauce; sauté 1 minute.
  2. Place toast on a foil-lined baking sheet. Top with ham, mushroom mixture and cheese.
  3. Bake in preheated 375°F oven or toaster oven 4 to 5 minutes or until heated through and cheese is melted.
