Apple, Cheddar & Cranberry Upside-Down Puffs

<p>This appetizer trend marries the elegance of French puff pastry with caramelized honey, apples, cranberries and of course Sargento® Shredded Sharp Natural Cheddar Cheese, all prepared in an upside-down version of a classic tart. The holidays just went bougie.</p>

Ingredients
  • 1 pkg.(17.3 ozs.) frozen puff pastry sheets (2), thawed
  • ½ cup hot honey
  • ½ cup frozen or fresh cranberries, halved
  • 2 small apples (pink lady, honey crisp or fuji), cored, cut into 36 thin wedges
  • 1 cup Sargento® Shredded Sharp Natural Cheddar Cheese, fine cut
  • 1 lg. egg, beaten
  • 2 Tbsp. chives, chopped
  • ½ cup pistachios, shelled, roasted and salted, chopped
Directions
  1. Pre-heat oven to 375 degrees. Unfold one of the sheets of puff pastry and cut in half, then cut each half into three equal rectangles. Repeat with remaining sheet of puff pastry. Set aside.
  2. Line a large baking sheet with non-stick foil. Spray the foil with non-stick spray. Drizzle about 2 teaspoons of hot honey onto six areas of the foil. Use the size of the puff pastry rectangles as a guide for how big they should be.
  3. Place 10 halves of cranberry cut side down over the honey, then add 3 apple slices over the cranberries. Sprinkle about 1 ½ tablespoons of cheese over apples. Top each pile with a piece of puff pastry. Press on all four sides so they touch the foil. Brush the puff pastry with egg. Repeat process with another large baking sheet and remaining ingredients. You will have two pans of six each.
  4. Place baking sheets in the middle of the oven and bake for 20 minutes or until deep golden brown. Remove pans from oven and transfer puffs to a platter or plates while puffs are still warm. Sprinkle chives and pistachios evenly over each. Serve.
  5. Note: For a perfect bite size holiday appetizer, cut the puff pastry rectangles in half, use half of each of the remaining ingredients and prepare the same as above.
