The meatballs in this sandwich are a savory combination of ground turkey and beef made with a pinch of red pepper flakes and cooked with pepper strips and pasta sauce. Once nestled in their submarine rolls and sprinkled with Sargento® Shredded Reduced Fat 4 Cheese Italian, they're ready to be devoured!

  • 1/2 lb. 97% fat-free ground turkey
  • 1/2 lb. lean ground beef sirloin
  • 1/4 cup seasoned dry breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg white
  • 1/4 tsp. crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 large green or yellow bell pepper, cut into thin strips
  • 1-3/4 cups pasta sauce
  • 4 (4 oz. each) soft Italian or submarine rolls
  • 1-1/2 cups (6 oz.) Sargento® Shredded Reduced Fat 4 Cheese Italian
  1. Combine turkey, beef, breadcrumbs, egg white and pepper flakes, if desired, in medium bowl. Shape mixture into 12 meatballs, 1-1/2-inches in diameter.
  2. Heat large nonstick skillet over medium heat; coat with nonstick cooking spray. Cook meatballs and pepper strips 8 minutes or until meatballs are evenly browned. Add pasta sauce and cover; simmer 7 more minutes.
  3. Split rolls lengthwise. Remove soft inner bread leaving 1/2-inch border; reserve bread for another use. Fill each split roll with 3 meatballs. Spoon sauce and pepper strips evenly over meatballs; sprinkle with cheese. Wrap in foil. Bake in preheated 400°F oven 15 minutes or until heated through.
