Asian Pear Grilled Ham & Cheese

Smoky ham, Sargento® Sliced Reduced Fat Provolone Cheese and Asian pear slivers are sandwiched between nutty wholegrain toast. This grilled-cheese is so packed with flavor that it stands on its own but can also be served with just a slight sprinkling of powdered sugar for those with a sweet-tooth.

  • 2 Tbsp. minced fresh cilantro
  • 1 Tbsp. thinly sliced green onion
  • 2 Tbsp. hoisin sauce
  • 12 thin slices deli style Virginia ham (or smoked ham)
  • 6 slices Sargento® Sliced Reduced Fat Provolone Cheese
  • 4 slices multi-grain bread
  • 1 Asian pear, cored and cut into 1/4" slices
  • 4 tsp. low-fat mayonnaise or olive oil cooking spray, for grilling
  1. In medium bowl, mix cilantro, green onion and hoisin sauce; add sliced ham and gently rub mixture to coat both sides of ham. Warm a large cast iron skillet over medium heat.
  2. To assemble each sandwich, spread a very thin coating of mayonnaise, about 1 teaspoon, over 1 slice of bread.
  3. Place mayonnaise-side down, then top bread with one slice of cheese. Arrange 6 folded pieces of ham, side by side. Spread a layer of sliced pears (about 5 slices) over ham; top with 2 overlapped slices of cheese and a slice of bread.
  4. Place both prepared sandwiches, mayonnaise-coated side down, in skillet. Weigh down with another smaller cast iron skillet.
  5. After 35-45 seconds, spread the uncoated side of sandwiches with mayonnaise. Turn sandwiches and cook 30 to 45 seconds, or just until bread is golden and cheese is melted.
