Hearty Cheddar Chili Con Carne

Nothing beats sitting down with a bowl of hearty chili that has chunks of chili seasoned beef and diced tomatoes stirred inside with zesty salsa. The only thing better is when that bowl of chili is garnished with Sargento® Shredded Mild Cheddar Cheese - Traditional Cut on top with a dollop of sour cream and some freshly chopped cilantro.

  • 1/2 lb. lean ground beef or turkey
  • 1 Tbsp. chili powder
  • 2 cans (15-1/2 oz. each) chili beans in spicy sauce, undrained
  • 1 can (14-1/2 oz.) seasoned diced tomatoes, undrained
  • 1/2 cup salsa (plus additional salsa for serving, if desired)
  • 2 cups (8 oz.) Sargento® Shredded Mild Cheddar Cheese - Traditional Cut, divided
  • Sour cream (optional)
  • Fresh cilantro (optional)
  1. Cook meat in large saucepan over medium heat until browned, stirring often; pour off drippings. Sprinkle chili powder over meat. Stir in chili beans, tomatoes and salsa. Cover; heat to a boil over high heat. Reduce heat; simmer 10 minutes.
  2. Stir 1 cup cheese into chili; ladle into bowls. Top with remaining 1 cup cheese. Serve with sour cream, salsa and cilantro, if desired.
