Italian Herb & Cheese Bread

Bake this bread in your oven and you’re sure to fill your house with the delicious aroma of crispy loaves made with Italian herbs, garlic and Sargento® Shredded 6 Cheese Italian. This luxurious bread can be an appetizer, part of a sandwich, or a tasty side.

  • 1 cup plus 2 Tbsp. water (110°F)
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • ½ tsp. yeast
  • ¼ tsp. garlic powder
  • ¾ tsp. Italian seasoning
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp. kosher salt
  • ½ cup (2 oz.) Sargento® Shredded 6 Cheese Italian
  1. In large bowl, add water, yeast and sugar and wait approximately 10 minutes until mixture is foamy. Add remaining ingredients and stir until well blended.
  2. Cover bowl tightly with plastic wrap, poking a small hole in the top to allow any gases to escape. Place in refrigerator overnight. You will have the best results if the dough is allowed to rise for about 18 hours. The next day, shape the dough into a baguette (long, narrow loaf), and allow to rise at room temperature until double, about 30 minutes.
  3. Place pan of water on bottom rack of oven and preheat oven to 425°F. With a sharp knife, make a ½- inch deep slash in top center of loaf and bake 30 minutes or until golden brown.
  4. Sprinkle additional cheese on top of the bread and place back in the oven until melted.
