Melt butter in large skillet over medium heat. Add onions; cook 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Reduce heat to medium-low, continue cooking 10 minutes, stirring frequently.
Beat eggs in large bowl. Add sour cream, salt and pepper; mix well. Stir in onion mixture and 1 cup cheese; pour into pie crust.
Bake in preheated 450°F oven 10 minutes. Reduce oven temperature to 350°F; bake 30 minutes more or until golden brown and set in center. Sprinkle with remaining cheese; let stand 20 minutes. Cut into wedges. Serve warm or at room temperature.
