INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup hot water (120 to 130°F)
  • 2 Tbsp. vegetable oil
  • 1 package hot roll mix
  • 1 egg
  • 2 Tbsp. Dijon mustard
  • 1 tsp. basil, crushed
  • 1/2 tsp. marjoram, crushed

    In small bowl, combine hot water and oil. In large bowl, combine hot roll flour mixture and yeast; blend well. Add water mixture and egg; stir until dough pulls away from sides of bowl. On lightly floured surface, knead dough for 5 minutes or until smooth. Cover with large bowl; let rest 5 minutes.

    On lightly floured surface, roll dough to 12x16-inch rectangle. Cut into three 4x16-inch strips. Combine mustard, basil and marjoram; spread mixture on each dough strip. Sprinkle with combined Cheddar and Swiss cheeses. Bring long edges of dough together to enclose filling; pinch to seal. Place strips side by side, seam-side down, on greased cookie sheet. Braid strips together; tuck ends under to seal. Cover loosely with plastic wrap and a towel. Let rise in warm place 30 minutes.

    In small bowl, combine egg yolk and water; brush dough with egg mixture and sprinkle with pepper. Bake at 375°F 20 to 25 minutes or until loaf sounds hollow when tapped. Serve warm.
