Havarti Burgers with Caramelized Onions
Ingredients
- 1 Tbsp. butter
- 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
- 1-1/3 lbs. ground beef chuck
- 1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
- 3/4 tsp. seasoned salt
- 4 slices Sargento® Deli Style Sliced Havarti Cheese, cut diagonally in half
- 4 leaves Boston or romaine lettuce
- 4 hamburger buns (multi-grain, sesame or whole wheat), split, grilled or toasted if desired
Optional toppings:
- Coarse grained mustard, mayonnaise, sliced tomatoes
Directions
- Melt butter in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Separate onion slices into rings; add to skillet. Cover; cook 3 minutes or until onions are wilted. Reduce heat; stir well and continue cooking uncovered 10 minutes or until onions are tender and golden brown, stirring occasionally. Season with salt and pepper, if desired.
- Meanwhile, combine meat, Worcestershire sauce and seasoned salt, mixing lightly but thoroughly. Form mixture into 4 patties about 1/2-inch thick. Grill patties, covered, over medium-hot coals or broil 4 to 5 minutes per side or until barely pink in center or longer to desired doneness. Top with cheese during last minute of cooking.
- Place lettuce on bottom of buns; top with patties, the onions and tops of buns. Serve with optional toppings as desired.
